privacy
the short version
- we keep what the app needs to put you in a small plan, and nothing for advertising.
- we never store your gps position. “near me” uses the middle of your suburb, and only if you switch it on.
- nobody sees how many people are going to anything, and the exact meeting spot goes only to the people going.
- delete your account in the app and everything tied to it goes with it.
- we don't sell your information. there are no ads and no ad trackers.
who we are
frolu (formerly called hum) is a small app for plans around bondi, run from new south wales, australia. we handle personal information under the privacy act 1988 (cth) and the australian privacy principles. questions or requests: hello@frolu.app.
operator: [legal name and ABN to be added].
what we keep
your account. your email address, used to send you a sign-in code (there's no password), and your confirmation that you're 18 or over.
signing up on this website. “join the test” asks for the same things the app does at sign-up: your email, your first name and your confirmation that you're 18 or over. nothing is saved in your browser, and the website signs you out when you're done.
your profile. your first name, a photo, your suburb, a short line about you and the things you're into. if you choose to add them: an instagram handle, a longer bio, a song, what you do, your birth year (shown only as an age), your gender, and whether you prefer mornings or evenings.
plans. the plans you start: what, when, where (the place, its address and any note on where to meet), a photo, the group size, any cost, who it's for and any details you add. also changes you make to a night (moved or called off).
going. the nights you say you're going to, asks to join, the waitlist, a plus-one, the things you save, invites you send or get, and the things you become a regular at.
afterwards. your answer to “did you go?”, a host's tick that you were there, and the people you tap as “met” (only you can see that list).
messages. what you write in a plan's group chat, and in a message to a host about their plan.
safety. reports you make (the reason and any note) and the people you block.
notifications. your phone's push token, your notification settings, and a short log of what was sent, so nobody gets too many.
near me (off unless you switch it on). if you turn on “things near me i might like”, we keep one rough point: the middle of your suburb, rounded to about a kilometre. it's cleared the moment you switch it off.
your location
your gps position is never stored and never sent to us. the app asks for it only when you tap to see yourself on the map or to find public spots near you while starting a plan, and only while the app is open. for “spots near me” it's rounded to about 100 metres before it's used to look up nearby public places, and then let go.
who sees what
- anyone, signed in or not, can see public plans and listings with the part of town only — never the spot.
- the exact meeting spot goes to the host, and to people who are in that plan once a few are in.
- people using frolu can see your short card: first name, photo, suburb, your line and interests.
- your fuller profile is seen only by people in the same plan as you (a host's, by people who can see their plan).
- a host's first name is shown on their plan, including on this website.
- nobody sees how many people are going, or who's going, from outside a plan. this website never shows attendees.
- blocking someone hides you from each other.
who helps us run it
these services handle some information for us, only to make frolu work:
- supabase — the database, sign-in and photo storage. data may be stored outside australia [region to be confirmed].
- google (gmail) — sends the email with your sign-in code.
- expo — delivers push notifications to your phone.
- photon by komoot (openstreetmap) — address suggestions as you type a place, and the rounded “spots near me” lookup.
- apple — the map, testflight and the app store.
- vercel — hosts this website, which keeps standard server logs (like ip addresses) for a short time. the website sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics.
some of these are based overseas, so your information may be handled outside australia. we choose providers that protect it.
photos
photos you add to your profile or a plan are stored so the app can show them. anyone with a photo's link can open it, so only add ones you're happy to be seen.
keeping and deleting
we keep your information while you have an account. delete your account in the app's settings and we delete everything tied to it: your profile and photos, the plans you started and their chats, your going, saves, check-ins, invites, settings, push tokens, blocks and the reports you made. reports other people made about you are kept, so a safety problem can still be looked into.
18 and over
frolu is only for people 18 and over. if we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we'll delete it.
your choices
you can see and change your profile in the app at any time. you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or to correct it, by emailing hello@frolu.app. if you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, tell us first; you can also complain to the office of the australian information commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
changes
if this changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it does.
